F.A.M Statement on the Passage of Utah House Bill 11
March 5, 2022
We are appalled by the actions of the Utah legislature last night. This coordinated attack on trans youth hurts real kids in Utah schools. While we welcome and support a veto by Governor Cox, we encourage all supporters of LGBTQ+ youth to remember those who voted in support of this hideous legislation and hold them accountable in the next election.
To the youth and educators who will bravely show up to less safe schools on Monday, you are not alone; we love you and we will continue to fight beside you. In the meantime, we encourage you to reach out for support from SafeUT, the Utah Pride Center, or other community organizations.
Now, more than ever, we need time and space to come together and celebrate the contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals in our Utah schools. We will hold our second annual rally to support LGBTQ+ teachers, students, and families on May 18, 2022 at the Utah State Capitol. We hope everyone who is hurting today will join us in celebration then.
